San Juan Capistrano, CA9. Horchata in the big jar waiting to stir the cinnamon just for you!
Burritos that are fatter than a husky puppy after eating nine dinners, you get the idea rolling out of the tortilla. To go is probably your best bet- dining in is funky. I'm not a fan of that type of pastry, come to think of it I don't even like donuts but the conchas and sweet breads are very beautiful in the case. We were hungry and started searching for good mexican food. So what better place than where locals go to enjoy authentic mexican food.

Mostly bad costumer service reviews and people who know nothing about real mexican food. So we're ok. We ordered a plate de tacos de barbacoa, super juicy and yummy. I ordered asada torta that I shared with my 5 year old. Big enough to share and we liked it alot. We also had a banana water, if you are used to Gallo Giro banana water it's not the same.
It was ok,too sweet but tasty. When you hear your number, walk to the register. Step 3- Pay. If you purchased a drink, go to Step 4. We found El Campeon and it was pretty packed.
The space is divided to a bakery and take out food/fresca area. If you're eating in, there are only bar stool tables inside and a bunch of 4 top table outside. Decided to give it a try since we haven't had street tacos in a while. I had the watermelon aqua fresh, which was perfectly sweet, so good! I personally enjoyed the carnitas better than the barbacoa because the sauce made the tortilla more mushy. All the flavors were really good though, so I would opt to try carne asada.
I'm so sad to have been disappointed by this place. The meat was very thin. They really packed the meat in, so I was pleased.
However, the meat wasn't seasoned so I spiced it up with Tapatio. The ingredients were not distributed properly and had no flavor whatsoever, minus the sauce he put on it. Also, they make decent almond cookies. But i LOVE how they have mini size pan dulce : ). It's a restaurant serving Mexican food and they also have a bakery which is what we came for.

It also looked like they had a carneceria so it's got a lot going on. They have all your usual selections of pan dulce and more!
The breads are freshly baked and delicious. You pick up a tray and load it up with what you want and bring it up to the register.
They have cut up fruit which you can buy in trays of different sizes. We got some cucumber with chile, lemon, and salt and it was very refreshing. We got another tray of cantaloupe, no add ons, and you can tell the fruit is fresh and tasty. We got the cantaloupe one and boy was it good! Just the right sweet and something about the jug it was in just made them all look so amazing!! It's been a busy minute since I've visited El Campeon's awesomeness in downtown San Juan!
There is an abundance of drinks here of various different flavors and colors just pick a color and try to guess it's flavor because you know it's going to be good anyway! As this is an awesome local place that's for the people so pay a visit and I'm sure that you won't leave hungry as there's a ton of options here! You know something is good.. Ordered the Carne Asada Tostada and a Buche Taco.. Very good with some spicy salsa.. The fresh juices are good.. So I walked into the store next door and grabbed a Mexican Coke..
I came across this restaurant/food to go spot a few years ago and was happy I did. I always get my fruit juice and #2. Another bonus is the house made Pico de gallo bar. I eat here evertime I'm in, near, or pass by for fear of missing a great meal. This is San Juan Capistrano's treasure aside from the Mission. After a long road trip to La Jolla and a few days in the OC, we needed to charge our Tesla. It's filled with flys, hot as hell and once again the meat is dry!
It's close to the Tesla Supercharger! That's about all. Best taqueria in South Orange County! Amazing authentic food and you will know why once you start eating.
Order your food and hold on to your ticket #. As there are only bar stools inside with seating outside.
It seems like San Clemente doesn't have copious amounts of dessert (ice cream, shaved snow, Che, donuts) like westminster and Costa Mesa have, but this place popped up and since my tongue was dying, an horchata sounded great. This tasted better than ones you get at Alertos, but it didn't make me want to share this with everyone. It did help with my tongue though. Drinks you can just order at the paying line!
I dislike the crunchy hard ones but I love soft breads. It made my mouth kind of dry but it wasn't dry itself! This one is different from that other bakery in San Bernardino since the cone was crispy and flakey. It wasn't hard but it had a bit of a bready element.
Not too sweet for custard but I would definitely finish this. I ripped off the bread and found it to be tender but it made my heart kind of hurt looking at it. There's some raisins too, that healthy .
As I kept eating it though , it got a bit much for me. This would be better if the sugar were lessened but it was only $1. They accept card too, but there's a .
Would come back if I'm in the area and craving. This place is disgusting and service is also bad. Tried three different dishes and all were full of . At least I hope it was meet. They chop it so small you don't really know what you are getting.
The taquitos are the worse. The meet in those, supposedly beef or chicken, has the texture of I don't know what????? It's like they took all the left over scraps of meat and chicken skins , put them in a blender, and wrapped them in a fried tortilla. I feel like throwing up just thinking about them again. I came here for the first time a few weeks ago and tried the al pastor and carne asade taco. They are so generous with the meat portions, and eating one taco was so filling.
I can't wait to come back to try more. The fancy Mexican restaurant around the corner had a 2.
I come with all the family all the way from garden grove. Place is clean. This place rocks. We drive from Corona to San Juan Capistrano just to eat here. Every type of meat you can imagine.
Bring your appetite because you will get a lot for your money! There's a Mexican bakery on the side with some of the best pastries.
